Last week a fellow painter told me that paintings are never finished, just abandoned. I think I agree.
A couple of weeks ago I saw a beautiful painting of a tea cup, on its own, on a simple neutral background. I have been admiring Margaret Olley’s still life paintings and thought that I should begin a small still life of my own. I remembered some gorgeous coffee cups given to me by my mum in law. After arranging and rearranging I settled on this composition. I did think at the time that elipses might be a challenge but I had no idea just how precise I would need to be. With no decorations or complex background to disguise my imperfections I have spent three weeks painting and adjusting elipses. Today I reached abandonment day.
