At my feet

It fascinates me what can grow in sand. The beach is such a great place for inspiration. This small study began as an experiment with watercolour on a watercolour canvas. I like watercolour but the canvas was different to what I was expecting, so ended up painting it in acrylics. It was quite a challenge working out how to make what looks like fine lines with chunky brushes and thick paint. I’m trying to be less concerned about what I’m seeing close up. Sometimes when I step back, what I thought looked like a random collection of colours and shapes suddenly transforms into something quite unexpected.
